Troubleshooting
Nothing appears at all
Section titled “Nothing appears at all”In order of likelihood:
- Your website builder stripped the
<script>tag. Many do, silently. View the published page’s source and search forembed.js— if it is not there, your platform removed it. There is an iframe version for this case, but its search button does not work — read that page before using it, and talk to RentX. - The tag is in the wrong place. The widget appears exactly where the tag
sits. In a
<head>, that is nowhere visible. Move it into the page body. - An ad blocker. Try a private window with extensions off.
- Your site blocks outside content. If your site sends a
Content-Security-Policyheader, it needs to allowrentx.alin bothscript-srcandframe-src. Your developer or host can confirm this.
Pressing search does nothing
Section titled “Pressing search does nothing”If you installed the iframe version, this is expected and there is nothing you can paste to fix it — the search button cannot complete a search without the script tag. Switch to the script tag if your platform allows it, and talk to RentX if it does not.
If you installed the script tag and nothing happens when you search, check
whether your browser blocked a pop-up: the results open in a new tab by default.
data-target="_self" opens them in the same tab instead, which no pop-up blocker
can stop.
The widget is cut off, or has its own scrollbar
Section titled “The widget is cut off, or has its own scrollbar”Almost always the panel layout in a column narrower than 300px. Either widen
the column or switch to bar.
If you used the iframe version, its height is fixed — reduce it and the calendar gets clipped. Use the published heights.
The search opens in the wrong place
Section titled “The search opens in the wrong place”By default it opens a new tab. If it is replacing your page, you have
data-target="_self" set — remove it. If you want it to replace your page and it
is not, add it. See Earning with RentX.
My logo does not show
Section titled “My logo does not show”data-branding="cobranded"must be set as well asdata-logo.- The URL must start with
https://. Anhttp://URL is ignored. - Open the logo URL in a browser tab. If it does not load there, it will not load in the widget.
My colour is ignored
Section titled “My colour is ignored”data-accent takes six-digit hex only. #C2410C works; #fff, red and
rgb(…) do not. See Colours and dark mode.
An option seems to do nothing
Section titled “An option seems to do nothing”The widget never reports a bad value — it uses the default and carries on. Check
the attribute name and its value against All attributes,
watching for spelling and capitalisation: data-car-type="suv" is ignored,
data-car-type="SUV" works.
I am not earning from the widget
Section titled “I am not earning from the widget”- Check you have both IDs.
data-rentx-partneron its own is not enough — a search with nodata-link-idis credited to nobody. This is the usual cause. See Earning with RentX. - Confirm both attributes are still on the tag in the published page. A site rebuild can drop them, and the widget keeps working without them, so nothing looks wrong.
- Press the search button yourself and look at the RentX URL that opens. It
must contain both
sourceId=andlinkId=. If either is missing, that attribute is not reaching the widget. - If both are there and your reporting still shows nothing, contact RentX with the URL.
It looks cramped on a phone
Section titled “It looks cramped on a phone”The widget fills the width it is given, so it is as wide as the container you put
it in. Check your own page’s padding on mobile. bar reflows to stacked fields on
narrow screens; panel is already stacked.
Still stuck
Section titled “Still stuck”Send RentX the page URL with the widget on it, and what you see instead of the
widget. The page source — the part containing embed.js — is the single most
useful thing to include.
